Welcome To Hazlehead School |
|
Hazlehead Primary and Nursery

just to the West of the Hazlehead roundabout. The school serves
the Craigiebuckler, Hazlehead. Kings Gate, Queens Den and Woodend areas

The school Library, Information and Communication
Technology Suite, Music, and Art facilities are located in General

I.C.T Suite |
The
I.C.T suite houses 14 computers and is visited weekly by all pupils,
and the nursery boys and girls are introduced to the suite when
possible.
During this time they work on a wide range of activities. These range
from basic knowledge of the hardware and keyboard skills, to internet
research, developing presentation skills and the collation of information.
Besides this all classrooms have at least
one networked and one stand alone computer.
|
| The school library holds more
than 4000 books covering a wide range of Fiction, Non-fiction and
Reference, including many topic-related resources. The catalogue is
continuously being updated reflecting the changing requests of children.
The library is
visited every week by all pupils so that they can select a book of their
choice to read at home. The catalogue and lending facilities are fully
computerised allowing ease of research and tracking of borrowing. |

An Additional Support for
Learning Unit was established in 2004 and can cater for the needs of up to
seven children. Specialist staff create an individualised programme for
all children requiring extra support.
These programmes allow integration with peer
group classes alongside individual activities where necessary. |
The music room
houses a wide range of instruments which are used regularly by all
pupils . The music teacher, Miss Minto, visits every Friday with classes
being taught on a fortnightly, rotational basis.
Miss Minto runs the choir, orchestra, guitar and
recorder groups while various specialists visit to teach individual
instruments. |

We are very fortunate in
having a large, multi-functional hall, with an excellent stage. The hall
is used for P.E, drama, weekly school assemblies, school discos,
presentations and various concerts throughout the year. The annual
Christmas concert is always well attended and the P.7 Leaver's
concert is one of the highlights of the summer term. These uses are on
top of
having to function daily as our dining area!
The fantastic, bright mural
was painted by Mrs. Scott and the children when the hall was
refurbished, thanks to P.T.A funds a few years ago. |
