Text Detectives: Sum It Up!

We have been learning how to summarise a piece of text as part of our focus on Active Literacy strategies.

Summarising is a very important life skill, particularly when studying for a test or exam. It involves:
•reading a text
•identifying the most important or most relevant points
•making a note of these points in your own words
•using your notes to produce a written summary

We tried summarising different texts and quickly learned that it’s not very easy! We all agreed that identifying the most important points was the most difficult part of it. We will keep practising this skill to become even better!

A helpful reminder for us is:
Shorter than the text
Use your own words
Main ideas only
