Focus 3 – Reusing Items
Our Book Swap
A huge Thank You to Mrs Harper and her amazing pupils in P4H for organising and leading the Hazlehead Book Swap as part of World Book Day. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking in their old books in exchange for a new read, creating much excitement in our school.
One of the messages that the Eco Group wants to promote is the importance of reusing things that we no longer need in order to minimise excessive waste and the impact on the environment. If you have items in your home that you no longer need, instead of throwing them out can you think of a more sustainable way of disposing them – for example donating them to charity.
Our Clothes Bank
Since our last Green Flag submission, we have continued to make great progress collecting unwanted clothing for recycling. This has been improved by the instalment of our permanent Rag Bag bank in our school grounds.
Second Hand Uniform
We have created a second-hand uniform area in the front entrance of the school. Parents can donate old, unwanted clothes which are stored in a shelving area beside our reception area. Parents are welcome to take what they need from the second-hand uniform shelf at no cost. We think that this is a great way to promote the reduce-reuse-recycle message.
