P5B Incredible Work – 05/06/20 – Anna V – Generation Lockdown Artwork

Anna’s Generation Lockdown artwork earned her the deserved title of P5B’s Incredible Work winner for this week! Anna completed a lovely piece of artwork that conveyed her thoughts, emotions and reflections about lockdown so far. She used perspective drawing to create a tunnel scene, and described this as a difficult road that will eventually end. At the end of the tunnel is a happy, sunny scene. She write ‘Hope’ and ‘Love’ on the sides of the tunnel, to symbolise how important these two actions are to getting through lockdown. A really great piece of reflective art. Well done, Anna!

P5B Golden Book – 03/06/20 – Milli F – Encouraging Feedback on Google Meet

Milli has been nominated for the Golden Book this week! During our group reading on Google Meet on Wednesday, Milli sent lovely, positive comments to each reader after they had finished. Milli wrote messages such as “Super reading!” and “Well done for your reading”. This was so encouraging and respectful, and really helped the morale within the group. Awesome work, Milli, keep it up!

P5B Suggested Timetable – w/b 01/06/20

Good Morning, P5B, and happy Monday once again! WHAT a weekend of sun we have had – I hope you managed to take full advantage of this and found yourself outside as much as possible! What a difference some sunshine makes to our well-being!

For our Numeracy this week, we are continuing to focus on angles, and will begin to explore the angles in some 2D shapes.. We will also be looking further into factor trees as part of our Number focus.

Within Literacy, we will begin to read Part 2 of Holes – the pieces of the story jigsaw are starting to fall into place! We will have another Google Meet group reading session on Wednesday – groups and times will be sent out in due course. We will use our reflective Generation Lockdown artwork to inspire us with the writing about our own personal thoughts, experiences and reflections during this time.

It was great to see you all smiling in our Google Meet on Friday. This is your weekly reminder that if you ever need a 1-on-1 catchup, or would prefer doing this in a small group, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m always happy to do this. Well done for your efforts last week, and let’s begin this week full of energy and positivity!!

Start your week by listening to some Michael Buble – Feeling Good! Is there a better feel-good song?! If you don’t like it, I’m sure your Mum will.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehm4HLnr-FQ

P5B Incredible Work – 29/05/20 – Oscar C – Angles Hunt

Oscar was nominated for Incredible Work this week for his fab Numeracy work. Oscar (along with his brother Flynn!) went on a big angles hunt, finding examples in their house and garden of different types of angles. He managed to find all 6 types – acute, right, obtuse, straight line, reflex and 360 – and sent in some lovely pictures. His example of an acute angle from the sun’s reflection was inventive!

Well done, Oscar, keep up the hard work!!

P5B Golden Book – 27/05/20 – Ben S – Responsibility, Fairness, Respect, Opportunity

Ben was awarded with a place in the Golden Book this week. When one of his friends couldn’t get into our weekly Google Meet, Ben video called him on his phone and held the screen up to the camera so that he could be part of the action. A really kind, thoughtful gesture that demonstrated our school values magnificently!

Super work, Ben, your quick-thinking helped out a friend when they were in need!

P5B Suggested Timetable – w/b 25/05/20

Good Morning, P5B, and happy Monday to you all! I hope that your weekends were full of life, loveliness and lots of laughter!

For our Numeracy this week, we are sticking within Shape & Movement, but moving from 3-dimensions on to angles (not angels!). We will also be looking further into factors and factor trees as part of our Number focus.

Within Literacy, we will continue to read Holes, including our first Google Meet group reading session on Wednesday – groups and times will be sent out in due course. We will also be carrying on our preparations for the Generation Lockdown writing competition about our own personal experiences and reflections during this time.

As I mentioned during our Google Meet on Friday, we are doing SO well, and need to continue with the hard work, motivation and enthusiasm for our learning. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger, brighter and closer. My door is always open for conversations if you are feeling at all low or deflated – I’m just an email or private message away.

P5B Incredible Work – 22/05/20 – Jess G for Reading (Comprehension)

Well done to Jess G for Incredible Work this week! Jess works really well on her home learning assignments, and always completes these to the best of her ability. This week, Jess excelled in her comprehension of Holes, where she was able to pick out lots of different examples of conflict within some directed chapters.

Jess was able to spot both Character vs Character and Character vs Self conflict, and drew some lovely pictures to represent these. She also demonstrated her inference skills by answering questions relating to the characters’ actions and feelings.

Super job, Jess, well done!

P5B Golden Book – 20/05/20 – Nathan D

Nathan D was nominated for the Golden Book this week. Nathan showed our responsibility and opportunity values by taking ownership of the feedback that he was receiving and implementing this into his new learning for the week. This was really impressive.

Well done, Nathan, great job!

Good Morning, P5B, and happy Monday to you all! I hope that you had a DELICIOUS weekend full of family, food, fulfilment (achievement/satisfaction) and, most importantly, funny moments!!

Today is National ‘No Dirty Dishes’ Day, and I am putting every member of P5B personally in charge of making sure that there are no dirty dishes in your house by the end of play today! You may have to get the marigolds (yellow cleaning gloves) out and practice your dish-washing skills.

Try and do your absolute best with all of today’s lessons: full concentration and effort – this will set up the week to be a successful one!

P5B Incredible Work – 15/05/20 – Ben S for Numeracy

Well done to Ben S for Incredible Work this week! From Tuesday’s Numeracy lesson on identifying, describing and classifying 3D shapes, Ben took it upon himself to complete BOTH textbook pages as well as the extension challenge! Ben managed to get all of these questions correct, demonstrating his ability to:

– label a variety of different 3D shapes accurately, spelling their names correctly
– problem solve with shapes that he was unfamiliar with – e.g octahedron – using his prior knowledge to find the correct answer
– build his own model using 3D shapes, and list these correctly
– identify different 3D shapes from a description alone (no picture!)
– write a description clue for 3 different 3D shapes
– practically explore different nets to see which 3D shapes they made

Ben shared all of his learning in a Google Slide.
Very impressive, Ben, well done!!

P5B Golden Book – 13/05/20 – Alexander S

Well done to Alexander for getting into the Golden Book this week for his fantastic attitude towards his learning. Alexander has been engaging well with all of his home learning, and always sends super pictures of what he has been getting up to. He has especially shone in his P.E challenges, and both Mr Blair and Mrs Webster have loved seeing videos and pictures of Alexander completing the tasks to the best of his ability.

Well done, Alexander, keep it up!

P5B Suggested Timetable – w/b 11/05/20

Happy Monday, P5B! I hope you all had a really great long weekend, and feel refreshed and replenished for another week of home learning!

Below is the suggested timetable for this week. I want to be really clear that the well-being of the children (and parents!) is of more importance than the individual lessons at this time. If there are days where certain barriers are present, know that a) this is absolutely OKAY and b) we’re all working together to get through this. Drop me an email at any time and I will do my best to reply as quickly as I can.

Keep on going, P5s! We really are doing so well, and have got to try and keep up the positive mindsets towards this way of learning. Let’s have a brilliant week! Mr Blair

P5B Suggested Timetable – w/b 04/05/20

Good Morning, P5B, and MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!

This is, of course, a magical day for anyone who likes Star Wars, down to the link between ‘May the 4th’ and “May the force be with you'” a famous quote from the Star Wars film series.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, enjoying the outdoors and precious family time. Hopefully you are feeling refreshed and ready for some more home learning. This is only a 3-day week, with the In Service Day on Thursday and Holiday on Friday.

Below is the suggested timetable for this coming week. Please let me remind you that this is suggested only; if there is a day where you are not able to access technology or other resources for any reason, do not panic – submit the work on Google Classroom whenever you are able to.

Well done again for all of your efforts, and let’s have another successful week! Mr Blair

Happy Monday, Primary 5s! I hope that you had a lovely weekend, enjoying the weather, exercise, food and time with family. It was really fantastic to end the week last week with a Google Meet, where we were able to see classmates again for the first time in a while!

P5B Suggested Timetable – w/b 20/04/20

Welcome back, Primary 5B! I hope you have had a lovely Easter break, enjoying the time with your families and out in the sun! Below is the suggested timetable for this week. Please remember that you can complete the learning in any order that you would like. Your completed work should be sent back through the assignments tab on Google Classroom (GC) – there were still quite a few pupils sending work by email or Google Drive, but please try and do everything from now on through GC. This allows for all of your learning to be kept in the same place, and for me to be able to give you private feedback.

Week 1 of home learning is complete! Can I say a big ‘well done’ and ‘thank you’ to both children and parents of P5B – it was really fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, initiative and creativity throughout the week. This is a big learning curve for us all in creating and adapting to new routines. Below is the suggested timetable for this coming week.

The Battle of Culloden

In 1746 the Hanovarians beat the small army of Jacobites at the Battle of Culloden.

Unfortunately no cameras were there that day, so Primary 5 had to re-enact the Battle to truly get a feel for it.

The Hanovarians (Mr Blair’s class) once again defeated the Jacobites (Miss Morrison’s Class) – on the basketball court at school rather than Culloden Moor.

Also, Primary 5 got to have lunch after which probably wasn’t quite how the day panned out for the original fighters.

Techfest Visit – Friday 30th August 2019. 07/09/2019

P5B had a brilliant time at Robert Gordon University last week, taking part in a variety of science lectures and experiments at Techfest! The workshops that we took part in were:

  1. Pollution Investigators
  2. The Physics of Floating
  3. The Scientific Dilemma of Dippy the Dinosaur

These were matched perfectly with our term 1 cross-curricular topic, The Blue Planet. Several photos were taken throughout the day, and these can be accessed through clicking the link below:

This is a link-shared folder which will be updated with a variety of class pictures throughout the year.

Welcome back! 07/09/2019

The first three weeks of session 2019/20 in P5B have flown by. It has been a busy opening to the term, and the children have done well to settle in to their new surroundings with minimal fuss and maximum enthusiasm. Over the course of the year, this page will be refreshed with posts, photos, reflections and updates on your child’s learning.

Below, you can find the Term 1 Overview that was sent home with your child’s portfolio yesterday (Friday 6th September).
