Aberdeen Reads Challenge

Planning on immersing yourself in some great books over the holidays..?  Aberdeen Libraries have a challenge for you…!!

This year’s Aberdeen Reads Challenge, which will run in Aberdeen City Libraries and online at Aberdeen City Libraries – Home | Facebook, between Saturday 25 June and Saturday 27 August 2022. There are plenty of ways that children and families can get involved, so please share this information with parent/carers across your various communication platforms.

Following from the success of Library Bear’s journey around the coast of Scotland last year, this year he will be embarking on an exciting World Tour. Children and families can exchange completed reading challenges for Bear Miles to help Library Bear travel further afield; each completed challenge OR book read will send Library Bear 20 miles.  You can follow Library Bear’s progress around the world by checking out the regular updates and photographs on Aberdeen City Libraries – Home | Facebook, and www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/libraries-and-archives/aberdeen-reads.

A Record Card for each entrant can be collected from any local library or downloaded from the Aberdeen Reads website.  Participants will be encouraged to keep a note of any reading, attendance at in-person library events and challenges completed. Returning the Record Card to any local library before 3 September will enter participants into a prize draw for a chance to win an exciting prize!

We are also VERY excited to announce that this year we will be able to return to in-person Aberdeen Reads Challenge events in libraries. There will be a series of reading and fun activity sessions, in libraries across the city, for families to attend and enjoy together. Please advise parent/carers to check Aberdeen City Libraries – Home | Facebook or www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/libraries-and-archives/aberdeen-reads for more details and instructions on how to book a space.

I hope this information is helpful, and that families with children in your setting really enjoy taking part in Aberdeen Reads Challenge this year!
