FAMILY ARTS DAY (Light The Blue 2024)

Saturday 8th June, 12 – 5pm

Union Terrace Gardens

We’re hosting a day of (mostly free) performances, workshops, tours and arts activities for children and their families, taking place across His Majesty’s Theatre and Union Terrace Gardens. Featuring young performers and professional artists, join us for an unforgettable afternoon of fun and creativity.


Bring a picnic and find a spot in Union Terrace Gardens or wander between our indoor and outdoor events all afternoon – you won’t be stuck for choice!

Expect a jam-packed line-up of family-friendly events including:

·         Lo-Fi Hip-Hop Beetroots, a new walkabout piece by Lewis Sherlock specially commissioned by Imaginate and Aberdeen Performing Arts
Celebrating all that we love and hate about vegetables, two giant beetroots and their carrot microphones dance and interact with young audiences as they roam

·         Musical theatre performances from Academy Of Expressive Arts
featuring songs from Frozen Jr and Shrek Jr

·         Family-friendly backstage tours of His Majesty’s Theatre
Take a step on His Majesty’s Theatre stage and find out some fun facts about our 116-year old Edwardian theatre. These bite-sized tours are perfect for young ones and their families.

·         Pop up flags in bloom art workshop from Gray’s School of Art’s Mobile Art School
Ready for some creative fun in the gardens? Join us for a cool screen-printing workshop and design your very own flag using ready-made shapes and patternsLet your imagination soar as you print your design, creating a unique pop-up flag using our mobile screen-printing station.

Also on this weekend, catch So Far So Good – an adventurous new contemporary circus show for early years. Three performers use daring acrobatics to explore flying, falling, steep places, precipices and the sharp rocks you come across on the way up. A perfect show for ages 3-6 and their families.


Saturday 8th – Monday 10th June, 10.30am and 1.30pm at the Lemon Tree.
